Respite

It has suddenly become summer here on the Coast. My yard is dried up green. My flowers are faded. The squirrels have built a raft and refuse to get out of the birdbath. My hair is so frizzy I must turn sideways to get through the door.
And my brain has shriveled to prune size. Not 'dried plum'. I am talking withered and wrinkly prune.
I have no hope of seeing a beach. But my swimsuit hangs at the ready.
It is so lonely and not salty here by the door...
See you again, soon!
Oh! PS- you can now check the Coast of Illinois out on Instagram!! @coastofillinois

    1. Thanks Phibby! We always kept the suits here when we had a hot tub - which has been gone for many years now. It occurred to me to move the suits as we rarely use them except on vaca and sometimes when sailing but I just really like the way that corner looks!!

  2. Oh, man, I was thinking the same thing. Seems like just yesterday that the grass was lush and green. Now it's all dried up and brown and it is HOT! Following you on Instagram!!

    1. I know Mo! As much as I love summer I really don't like this stretch. Without an ocean or a pool handy I am ready for autumn! Also - thanks and returning your follow on Instagram!!

  3. I only life 3 and a half hours from the beach and I haven't made it this summer either. This is a first for me. I'm in mourning of missing my walks on the beach right as the sun gets ready to set or getting there early in the morning and watching it rise....if you hear a noise it is me whimpering!

    1. Oh Rena! I feel your pain! Of course, the closest salt-water beach is 12 hours away. Which makes me unbelievably sad. Here's to one day being able to walk with our toes in the sand, any time we want to.
